Head to Straddie (North Stradbrooke Island) for a dive! December is definitely Manta season up there... and enjoy the rest of the day or weekend there on the beautiful beaches. It's easy to get there by train, taxi boat and bus!
Rent a car (a 4WD even!) and explore the coast. Moreton Island is a paradise nearby, you can also head to Cooloola National Park for a wild experience (and take your surfboard to famous Double Island Point), or to the Sunshine Coast for long beautiful beaches, or to the Gold Coast to get inspired for SIGIR 2014!
Go for a walk in the rainforest and take in breathtaking views of waterfalls. Aim for Springrook, Lamington or Tamborine National Parks. Shuttle companies would take you there or hire a car.
Or just stay in town and enjoy summer...
